How to be happy at work
Posted on 7th 8, 2015
Based on studies, we have found there are unhappy employees by two-thirds worldwide, and only 13% of employees worldwide are happily engaged at their work, according to Gallup.
It was a surprising result to see there are so many people are not fully satisfied with their job and want to change to the new one. Basically, you spend more than half of your waking time in the workplace, and if you don’t love or enjoy what are you doing, you just produce an unproductive day and get stress by the end of the day. Fortunately, the good news is that you can become the owner of your day. Choose to be happy! Follow the following 4 steps to be happier at work.
1. Begin your day with fresh morning
Your sleep time is precious, but by getting up early in the morning, you can enjoy your own time before being the rush. It’s true that how you feel in the morning affects how you feel at work for the rest of your day. So, get up at least one hour before the time you leave for work. Grab a good article to read, go for a short jog, drink hot tea or coffee, and have a proper breakfast. By getting up early in the morning with fresh mood, you have more energy and a clearer mind to get things done earlier like the old saying, “early bird catches the worm”.
2. Help your colleagues
Helping others makes you happy, and helping your colleagues can make you happier at your work. You don’t need to do anything dramatically. You can take a note during the meeting in case they cannot follow up, open the door, or buy them some drink or food if they are busy. Offer to do something simple to help your colleagues. You would be surprised to see your small help can improve your relationship beyond your office. It’s true it’s easier and more exciting to work with people you like and whom like you. Your network provides support, resources, helping and caring.
3. Be proud of what you do
One of the very famous quotes from Steve Jobs is, “the only way to do great work is to love what you do”. It’s certain that you can’t be happy if you don’t love your job, and you can’t find the best inside you to do it greatly if you aren’t proud of what you are doing. Therefore, to be happy , to be motivated, you must start finding more reasons and clearer visions of you are doing and of where it can lead you to. Think your job as meaningful as to help others, take a pride in your personal development, and celebrate when you achieve your target.
4. Avoid negative people and manage your emotion
The more you stay with negative people who like complaining and whining about their personal or work issues, the more you will be dragged down to their level, and you can’t be happy with your day. Avoid them as much as possible and focus on people who are optimistic and positive on their job. It’s also pleasing if you have a sense of humor with your colleagues. Your day would be more productive and pleasure if you smile, laugh often, and make a joke with your colleagues.
